Aarhus plans 40 MW heat pump to secure district heating

The utility company Kredsløb is planning the installation of three large air-to-water heat pumps to secure district heating in Aarhus after 2030. This transition is necessary as the agreement to supply district heating from the Studstrup Power Station is set to expire at the end of 2030.

The first of these projects will be a 40 MW facility located in Harlev, west of Aarhus. Once operational, the plant is expected to provide heat equivalent to the annual consumption of 10,000 households. Construction is slated to begin in 2027 and is expected to take approximately two years.

Sweco has been tasked with leading the commissioning of the facility to ensure the heating system functions as planned during the transition from construction to operation. Senior engineer Rune Bundgaard will serve as the commissioning manager for the project.
