Aaron Ago Dagang calls for national unity alongside economic progress

Malaysia's Minister of National Unity, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, stated that national progress should not be measured solely by economic growth, technological sophistication, or urban development. Instead, he emphasized that true success must include the level of unity and sense of togetherness among the people.

Speaking at the Dialog Seri Negara 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Aaron noted that as Malaysia approaches its 100th anniversary, the strength of its shared identity will be a vital metric. He argued that nation-building does not mean erasing differences in race, religion, or culture, but rather forming a national identity that unites all citizens through understanding, respect, and celebration of diversity.

He further highlighted that unity cannot rely solely on government policies or law enforcement, as daily social interactions, trust, and community relationships play a crucial role in maintaining social harmony.
