Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik await decision on permanent partnership

Malaysian men's doubles pair Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik are awaiting a decision regarding their long-term partnership following a successful silver-medal run at the World Championships in New Delhi. Despite their recent performance, which saw them finish as runners-up to China's Liang Wei Keng and Wang Chang, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) intends to continue its restructuring of the men's doubles category.

National doubles coaching director Rexy Mainaky stated that a final decision on whether the pair will be permanently reunited for the road to the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics will only be made after the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya. For the upcoming Asian Games, Aaron Chia is expected to compete alongside Tee Kai Wun as part of the ongoing experimental combinations.

Soh Wooi Yik noted that while the pair hopes to remain together to pursue Olympic gold, they are open to discussing professional options if their goals do not align with the national coaching strategy. The pair will continue to evaluate their direction with BAM and their coaches over the coming months.
