Aaron Judge diagnosed with rib stress fracture, sidelined for several weeks

The New York Yankees announced that right fielder Aaron Judge has been diagnosed with a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side. The injury, originally reported as a bone bruise, requires additional imaging and is expected to keep Judge out of the lineup for four to six weeks, with the possibility of a stint on the injured list.

Judge, who last played on May 31, is a three‑time American League MVP and entered the season tied for the team lead with 17 home runs while posting a .907 OPS. Since May 17, he has hit .163 with one homer and eight RBIs over 13 games. The Yankees manager Aaron Boone said further tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis and to determine when Judge can return.

In Judge’s absence, the Yankees are monitoring outfielder Jasson Dominguez, who is beginning a rehab assignment after a shoulder injury, and veteran Giancarlo Stanton, who remains on the injured list with a calf strain.
