Tampa Bay Rays defeat New York Yankees 1-0 in ALDS Game 1
The Tampa Bay Rays took a 1-0 lead in the American League Division Series after defeating the New York Yankees in Game 1. The game was decided by a solo home run from Jonathan Aranda in the third inning against Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole.
Tampa Bay pitcher Drew Rasmussen delivered a dominant performance, pitching eight innings and recording 10 strikeouts. Rasmussen held the Yankees without a hit through seven and two-thirds innings, nearly completing a no-hitter. The bid was broken up in the eighth inning by an Austin Wells double, but Wells was subsequently thrown out while attempting to stretch the hit into a triple.
The Yankees offense struggled significantly, managing only one hit throughout the entire game. New York will play Game 2 on Monday with Cam Schlittler scheduled to start against the Rays' Freddy Peralta. The Yankees are also playing without captain Aaron Judge, who remains sidelined due to a calf injury.
