Aaron Reiss to lead Telling Stories with Maps workshop series
Journalist and cartographer Aaron Reiss will lead a two-part workshop series titled ‘Telling Stories with Maps’ designed for instructors interested in integrating map-making into classroom settings.
The first session, a webinar titled ‘How Maps Work’, is scheduled for October 20, 2026. This theoretical component explores map design, how maps construct arguments, and methods for collecting small datasets in the field.
The second session, ‘Hands-On Map-Making’, will take place in person at the Sterling Memorial Library DH Lab on October 28, 2026. This practical workshop covers tools such as geojson.io and Datawrapper, alongside graphic design and basic coding using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Participants will work to create their own interactive map-story.
