Aaron Sorkin discusses The West Wing revival and new film
Writer and director Aaron Sorkin has expressed interest in potentially reviving the political drama The West Wing, though he noted it would be “very, very tricky” to do so in the current political environment. Sorkin admitted to thinking about the series frequently and suggested that the fictional President Josiah Bartlet’s reaction to modern politics would likely mirror the public's current sentiments.
Cast members Bradley Whitford and Dule Hill have also voiced interest in a return, with Hill suggesting that a revival could help steer society toward “humanity and connectivity and understanding.”
Separately, Sorkin’s new film, The Social Reckoning, dramatizes the investigative work behind The Facebook Files. The movie follows journalist Jeff Horwitz and whistleblower Frances Haugen as they expose Facebook’s algorithmic impact on polarization. The narrative utilizes competing timelines, including Mark Zuckerberg’s preparation for Congressional testimony amidst the January 6th Capitol insurrection.
