Sony Pictures releases trailer for ‘The Social Reckoning’
Sony Pictures has released a new trailer for ‘The Social Reckoning’, a companion film to the 2010 movie ‘The Social Network’. Written and directed by Aaron Sorkin, the film is scheduled for a theatrical release on October 9, 2026.
Unlike the original film which focused on the founding of Facebook, this story is inspired by the real-life ‘Facebook Files’ investigation published by The Wall Street Journal in 2021. The plot centers on whistleblower Frances Haugen (played by Mikey Madison), a former Facebook engineer, and Wall Street Journal reporter Jeff Horwitz (played by Jeremy Allen White). Together, they attempt to expose internal company secrets regarding the platform's impact on mental health, social polarization, and misinformation.
Jeremy Strong takes over the role of Mark Zuckerberg, a character previously portrayed by Jesse Eisenberg. The cast also includes Bill Burr, Wunmi Mosaku, and Betty Gilpin. The film is described as a ‘David and Goliath’ story, examining the consequences of Facebook's transformation into a global power and the ethical responsibilities of social media giants.
