AARP report highlights $12.5 trillion economic contribution from adults over 50

According to AARP’s 2026 Longevity Report, adults over the age of 50 contributed $12.5 trillion to the economy in 2024. This demographic also provided the equivalent of $1.2 trillion in unpaid care and volunteering services.

As this cohort ages, spending patterns are expected to shift toward housing, caregiving, and other essential needs required for longer lifespans. Jason Mugg, Senior Vice President at AARP Services, noted that rising costs for necessities like groceries and vehicle maintenance highlight the importance of practical savings.

To assist with these costs, AARP offers various member benefits. For example, members can access a 50% discount and free shipping on their first meal delivery order from bistroMD, with a 10% discount on subsequent orders.
