AART wins 661 million DKK contract for Rosenborg Slot renovation

Architectural firm AART has won the competition to design the 'Rigets Nye Skatkammer' project for Rosenborg Slot in Copenhagen. The renovation, described as the castle's largest since its construction in 1634, is valued at 661 million DKK.

The winning proposal includes the creation of a new underground treasury located beneath the water level of the moat, alongside modern visitor facilities and a partial reconstruction of the castle's historical moat. The design aims to enhance the experience of the site, allowing visitors to view the royal collections, including crown jewels and historical regalia, in a contemporary setting.

Funding for the project is provided by several major contributors: A. P. Møller Fonden is providing 450 million DKK, the Danish state is contributing 131 million DKK, and Augustinus Fonden is providing 80 million DKK. The project is intended to accommodate the more than 500,000 annual visitors to the castle.
