Aatish Kapadia discusses inspiration for Netflix series ‘Chumbak’

Writer-director Aatish Kapadia has revealed that the inspiration for the Netflix comedy series ‘Chumbak’ stems from the declining warmth and closeness of traditional neighborhood relationships.

The series, produced by A Hats Off Production and created by Kapadia alongside Jamnadas (JD) Majethia, explores the lives and dynamics of five different families. Kapadia noted that while modern society has become more polite and formal, the show aims to capture the era when neighbors acted as a mutual support system.

The title ‘Chumbak’ was suggested by Kapadia’s son, Agastya, to represent the idea of people being connected to one another.
