Aave identified by Citi as a leader in tokenized financial infrastructure
Citi Research has identified the Aave lending protocol as a leading real-world application of tokenized financial infrastructure. According to reports on a recent research note, the bank suggests that asset tokenization has moved beyond the pilot stage and into live operations, specifically highlighting collateral mobility as a primary use case.
In traditional markets, moving collateral between banks and clearinghouses is often constrained by business hours and settlement cycles. Citi argues that tokenized assets, when paired with regulated on-chain cash like stablecoins or tokenized deposits, enable atomic delivery versus payment. This ensures that securities and payments change hands simultaneously, reducing exposure to delivery failures.
Additionally, Aave has expanded its utility through the Equities Hub on the Base network. This feature allows eligible users outside the US to deposit tokenized shares of major technology companies, such as the Magnificent 7, to borrow USDC. As of mid-October 2026, users had deposited approximately $9.57 million in tokenized Magnificent 7 supply into the hub, with borrowing wallets increasing from 8 to 144.
