Aavin increases prices of 63 dairy products in Tamil Nadu

Aavin, the cooperative dairy brand under Tamil Nadu’s Dairy Development Department, has announced price increases for 63 products, including ghee, butter, curd, milkshakes, and sweets. The revised rates are scheduled to take effect on October 28, 2026.

The company cited rising raw material and production costs as the primary reasons for the price revision. The timing of the increase coincides with the Diwali festival, a period when demand for dairy products and sweets typically surges.

Specific price changes include: - Ghee: 100g packs rising from Rs 85 to Rs 95; 500ml packs rising from Rs 365 to Rs 400. - Butter: 100g packs increasing from Rs 60 to Rs 70. - Sweets: 100g of Rasgulla increasing from Rs 45 to Rs 50; 500g of Gulab Jamun rising from Rs 100 to Rs 115. - Beverages: 200ml lassi increasing from Rs 20 to Rs 23; ten milkshake varieties rising from Rs 30 to Rs 35.

Political opposition, including AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi Palaniswami, has criticized the move, accusing the government of prioritizing profit over public needs during a major festive season.
