Aavin to face management inquiry and new productivity missions

Tamil Nadu Milk and Dairy Development Minister C Vijayalakshmi has announced that the state government will release a white paper regarding the financial and administrative management of the Aavin cooperative. The Minister alleged that mismanagement under the previous administration led to significant financial difficulties, including an increase in annual losses from Rs 603 crore to Rs 1,275 crore. Additionally, Aavin reportedly owes Rs 255 crore to farmers and Rs 482 crore to the state government.

To address these challenges and boost productivity, Aavin will launch two missions under the Tamil Nadu Innovative Initiatives (TANII) at a total cost of Rs 20 crore. The first Rs 10 crore mission will focus on 4,000 jersey crossbred calves to improve growth and milk-yielding capacity through specialized feed and sex-sorted semen. The second Rs 10 crore mission aims to improve the reproductive efficiency of 50,000 milch cows facing fertility issues through veterinary intervention and nutrition management. The government also plans to train 100 unemployed individuals in artificial insemination techniques to bolster skilled manpower in the sector.
