ABA League resolves referee dispute to resume competition
The ABA League has resolved a dispute with referees, allowing the regional basketball competition to resume. Following the postponement of the first round due to disagreements over compensation and working conditions, the league has compiled a new list of officials. The second round of matches for both the ABA League and ABA 2 will proceed according to the original schedule.
Reports indicate that the impasse stemmed from referees requesting higher fees—approximately 800 euros per game—while the league offered 630 euros. The league presidency, with club consent, rejected the initial demands presented by the referees' legal representative. Miguel Ángel Pérez, the referee commissioner, was tasked with finalizing the new roster to ensure the season could continue.
In other hockey news, the Slovak national team has confirmed its schedule leading up to the 2027 World Championships in Germany, including participation in the German Cup in November 2026. Additionally, Juraj Slafkovský and other Slovak players continue to earn significant salaries in the NHL, with Slafkovský's annual contract valued at 7.6 million dollars.
