Aba Power to Restore Electricity to Abia State Ring‑Fenced Area

Former Minister of Power Professor Bart Nnaji, chairman of Aba Power and member of the Geometric Power group, announced that electricity supply to the Aba Ring‑fenced Area—covering nine local government areas in Abia State—will be restored this week. The outage began after the clutch gear and starter motor of the gas pressure system at Heirs Energies' Associated Gas Gathering Plant in Obigbo, Rivers State, failed due to age, cutting gas to the 188‑MW Geometric Power Plant.

Heirs Energies sourced the critical component from the United States, flew it to Lagos, cleared customs, and transported it by road to Port Harcourt, while Geometric Power covered the cost of the air freight. Nnaji apologized to businesses and residents for the disruption and urged the federal government to address gas‑supply issues that affect the majority of Nigeria’s electricity generation.
