Abadia de Goiás: Structure collapse sends 30 people into hole
Approximately 30 people fell into a three-meter-deep hole in Abadia de Goiás, Brazil, during a party in the early hours of Sunday, October 4. The incident occurred when the slab of an old water reservoir at a rural property collapsed.
While many individuals managed to climb out of the hole on their own, one victim required a technical rescue by the Goiás Military Fire Department (CBMGO). The victim was conscious but suffered a suspected leg fracture and was stabilized using a cervical collar and a rigid board before being transported to the Instituto Ortopédico de Goiânia (IOG).
Firefighters noted apparent precariousness in the existing structures at the site. Following the rescue, the area was isolated, and the property owner was instructed to conduct a structural evaluation and implement measures to eliminate further risks.
