Žabakor nature reserve hosts over 90 bird species

The Žabakor nature reserve, located within the Bohemian Paradise (Český ráj) protected landscape area, serves as a vital ecological hub. Spanning 80.5 hectares and managed by the Nature Conservation Agency of the Czech Republic, the site is home to over 90 bird species.

The area's extensive reeds, wetlands, and water bodies provide essential nesting grounds and critical stopover points for birds during spring and autumn migrations. Notable species observed in the region include the white-tailed eagle, grey crane, and various songbirds.

Beyond ornithology, the wetland environment supports rare flora and fauna, including protected plants like the Elbe Spiraea and various amphibians. The site has a long history of scientific research, having been studied for decades by prominent Czech ornithologists to monitor ecosystem health and population changes.
