Explosion in Buenaventura's La Gloria kills one and wounds another
An explosion occurred in the rural vereda La Gloria, within the jurisdiction of Buenaventura, Valle del Cauca, killing a man and injuring a second person. Authorities say the blast was triggered when a fragmentary grenade of the IM‑M26 type was mishandled, sending shrapnel that struck the victims. The deceased had previous judicial records for rebellion in 2015 and 2022 and for illicit arms trafficking in 2020.
The incident is being investigated by the Cuerpo Técnico de Investigación (CTI). Police collected the grenade’s safety lever and other evidence for forensic analysis. Buenaventura’s security secretary, María Liliana Vivas Paz, said the event highlights the need to strengthen prevention and control measures in rural zones and affirmed that police and the army are coordinating to ensure community safety.
