Abanilla faces sharp increases in municipal waste management taxes

In Abanilla, the local political group Independientes Unidos por el Municipio de Abanilla has denounced significant increases in waste management taxes approved by the Partido Popular (PP). The group claims that tax rates for housing have risen by 140%, commerce by 92%, industry by 65%, and hospitality by 59%.

The new tax ordinance links the obligation to the cadastral reference of the property, meaning residents must pay even if the property is uninhabited or the business is inactive. Critics argue this measure limits municipal autonomy and places an unfair financial burden on citizens, accusing the local government of using the tax as a political confrontation tool.
