Abattoir worker appeals jail term for stabbing colleague

Rudolf Salisa, a 33-year-old Samoan national, is appealing a jail sentence following a stabbing incident at Singleton. Salisa, an abattoir worker, was previously sentenced to a maximum of 18 months in prison, with a non-parole period of 12 months, after pleading guilty to stabbing a 35-year-old colleague and housemate with a boning knife.

The incident occurred in April after an argument regarding a mobile phone charger. During a hearing at Newcastle District Court, Salisa’s legal counsel argued for an intensive correction order, noting that he is currently addressing anger management issues. Salisa expressed remorse through an interpreter, stating he had reflected on his actions and would participate in necessary programs to prevent future violence.
