ABB implements health risk monitoring for Brazilian employees

ABB, a provider of electrification and automation technologies, has implemented a health risk monitoring system for its approximately 1,800 employees in Brazil. Aligned with Regulatory Standard No. 1 (NR-1) for occupational safety, the initiative aims to identify and address previously less visible risk factors.

Key findings from the monitoring include sedentary lifestyles, lack of awareness regarding corporate benefits, and family debt. The company noted that debt emerged as a significant factor impacting the mental health of its workforce. In response, ABB is considering the creation of a financial education program to support employees with personal financial goals and prevent extreme debt situations.

A central pillar of this initiative is an external mental health service provided by Grupo Albert Einstein. This service offers psychiatric and psychological care while generating anonymized, aggregated data to help the company's health executive committee identify systemic issues. The monitoring also involves occupational physicians at ABB factories in Sorocaba (SP) and Contagem (MG), alongside analyses of medical leave cases and organizational climate surveys.
