ABB invests in Gridcog and Ostrom expands virtual power plant with PV and storage

ABB has made a strategic minority investment in UK‑based startup Gridcog, a digital platform that models complex microgrids, distributed energy resources and energy‑as‑a‑service solutions. The partnership will let ABB’s customers design, compare and validate energy projects with clear insight into cost and carbon impact. ABB’s Electrification Services president Stuart Thompson said the collaboration will help customers “move faster from concept to implementation” while reducing emissions.

German electricity provider Ostrom announced that its virtual power‑plant platform Neogrid AI will now integrate residential photovoltaic systems and battery storage. The AI‑driven tool optimises household consumption, PV production and battery status against real‑time market signals, allowing customers to earn “Neogrid Credits” for flexibility. Co‑founder and CEO Matthias Martensen explained that the system “optimises systemically, linking home flexibility to the electricity market”. The rollout begins in July for Huawei‑based installations and will later support other battery brands.
