ABB launches frequency inverters for extreme environments

ABB has expanded its portfolio of frequency inverters with new versions of the ACS580, ACH580, and ACQ580 models designed for extreme industrial environments. These new variants are certified under the IP66 (European) and UL Type 4X (American) standards, providing total protection against dust, water jets, extreme temperature fluctuations, and corrosive chemical attacks.

The specialized equipment is intended for use in demanding sectors such as mining, food production, chemical industries, wastewater treatment, and offshore operations. For instance, the ACS580 is suited for food processing facilities that require daily cleaning with water and chemicals, while the ACQ580 is designed to resist corrosive agents like caustic soda in water treatment plants. The ACH580 is targeted at large-scale HVAC-R systems used in data centers and cold storage.

These inverters regulate the torque and speed of electric motors, offering potential energy savings of up to 25% compared to motors connected directly to the power grid. Additionally, the models feature Bluetooth control options for easier commissioning and monitoring via ABB applications.
