ABB launches Proteus portfolio for utility‑scale solar and battery storage

ABB announced the Proteus portfolio, a new line of solar photovoltaic (PV) inverters and battery energy storage system (BESS) solutions aimed at utility‑scale projects. The technology delivers industry‑leading conversion efficiencies of up to 99.45% and ultra‑clean output with total harmonic distortion below 0.7%, helping maximize energy yield and reduce equipment stress. Proteus BESS offerings feature bi‑directional converter stations, grid‑forming and black‑start capabilities, and are compatible with multiple battery chemistries, supporting grid stability and resilience.

The portfolio will be showcased at Intersolar 2026 in Munich, Germany (June 22‑25). ABB cites the International Energy Agency’s forecast that utility‑scale renewable electricity generation will grow about 60 % over the next four years, driving demand for reliable, high‑efficiency power conversion. To date ABB has installed more than 120 GW of power‑conversion capacity worldwide and operates in over 70 countries, positioning the company to support developers, utilities and EPC contractors across major energy markets. The Proteus solutions are designed for a service life of up to 30 years and are backed by lifecycle services.
