ABB partners with Ferrari Hypersail for offshore electrification

ABB has announced a technological partnership with Ferrari Hypersail to advance offshore electrification. As the Electrification Partner, ABB will provide expertise in marine electrical systems, direct current (DC) technology, and energy management to support the project.

Ferrari Hypersail is an innovative, 100-foot hydrofoil ocean monohull powered exclusively by renewable energy sources. The vessel is designed to function as an energy-autonomous microgrid, utilizing a DC architecture with 48 V and 800 VDC levels to manage power generation, storage, and distribution in real time for propulsion, navigation, and safety systems.

ABB intends to use the Ferrari Hypersail as a high-performance testing platform to demonstrate how advanced electrification and intelligent energy management can improve resilience and efficiency in extreme offshore environments. The findings from this collaboration are expected to inform the development of next-generation industrial microgrids.
