Abbadia Isola to host event on Disney adaptation of Virgil’s Aeneid

The Abbadia Isola museum complex in Monteriggioni will host a public event titled ‘La Papereneide’ on Sunday, October 11, at 17:30. Part of the ‘Incroci’ review, the meeting focuses on the Disney-style reimagining of Virgil’s epic poem, the Aeneid, as featured in Topolino issues 3669-3677.

The discussion will explore the intersection of classical philology, popular science, and sequential art. Participants include prominent Italian comic book writer Francesco Artibani and illustrator Simona Capovilla. They will be joined in dialogue by Filomena Giannotti and Alessandro Fo from the University of Siena, with the event coordinated by Dario Ceccherini.

The session aims to examine how the comic book medium can make ancient classical texts accessible to contemporary audiences and younger generations by combining humor and adventure with narrative rigor.
