ABBank and SHB implement major banking updates in Vietnam

Vietnam's banking sector is seeing significant developments regarding capital structure and security. ABBank has received approval from the State Bank of Vietnam to increase its charter capital by a maximum of 10,765.455 billion VND. This increase will be achieved through several methods, including offering shares to existing shareholders, issuing shares from owner equity, and issuing shares to employees. Once completed, ABBank's charter capital is expected to reach approximately 26,833.3 billion VND.

Recent shareholder disclosures for ABBank reveal that 18 shareholders own more than 1% of the bank's charter capital, representing over 56% of the total. Major institutional shareholders include Malayan Banking Berhad (Maybank) with a 12.145% stake, Geleximco Group with 9.466%, and Glexhomes with 3.279%. Several individual shareholders also hold significant stakes, with the highest direct individual ownership held by Vu Thi Hai Yen at 4.08%.

Separately, SHB has expanded its fraud prevention features for online transactions. Starting September 2026, the bank will implement an enhanced warning system for suspicious recipient accounts within its own system. This feature applies to individual customers using the SHB SAHA app, VietQR scans, and integrated platforms like Zalo. For corporate clients, the warning system is integrated into the transaction processing steps, notifying both the maker and the approver of any suspicious account information before a transfer is finalized.
