Abbanoa faces investigation into financial accounts and credit dealings

The Prosecutor's Office and the Guardia di Finanza are investigating the financial accounts, investments, and liquidity of the water utility company Abbanoa. Investigators are specifically looking into potential “false corporate communications.”

A central focus of the inquiry involves a 243 million euro credit facility granted to the financial institution Credem through investment funds and asset management. This transaction has drawn significant criticism from regional political figures, including Paolo Truzzu, who has announced intentions to file complaints with the Court of Auditors and the National Anti-Corruption Authority (Anac). Truzzu alleges the credit was granted without comparative evaluations or necessary board resolutions, potentially violating public procurement codes.

The investigation, which began in 2025 under prosecutor Paolo De Angelis, also examines the company's financial state following the conclusion of a procedure to return 231.3 million euros to the Region to settle 2013 state aid. Despite collecting approximately 300 million euros annually in utility bills, the company's financial management remains under scrutiny.
