Abbas Araghchi: Middle East security cannot be dictated by external powers

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that sustainable security in the Middle East must be managed by regional nations rather than being dictated by external powers. Speaking virtually at the 2026 Global Dialogue Forum hosted by the Foreign Policy Community of Indonesia, Araghchi argued that decades of foreign military intervention and pressure have failed to create stability, instead normalizing war and conflict as tools of international politics.

Araghchi attributed current regional tensions to aggression by the United States and Israel, noting that such actions undermine international law and state sovereignty. He specifically highlighted the situation in Gaza as a profound test of the international community's collective responsibility and conscience.

Furthermore, the Foreign Minister emphasized that Tehran remains committed to restoring peace and stability through regional consultations and friendly relations with neighboring countries, asserting that regional security should belong to the countries within the region.
