Abbas Shuman calls for Islamic unity and economic integration

Dr. Abbas Shuman, Secretary-General of the Council of Senior Scholars at Al-Azhar, has called for greater unity and economic integration across the Islamic world. Speaking at a conference organized by the Indonesian Ministry of Religious Affairs in Jakarta, Shuman emphasized the need for coordinated decision-making to address complex modern challenges.

Shuman urged Muslim business leaders and investors to localize their investments within Islamic nations rather than directing capital toward countries perceived as hostile. He warned that such investments can be used to manufacture weapons that cause harm within the Muslim community.

Additionally, he highlighted the historical role of the mosque as a center for consultation and social guidance, rather than just a place of worship. He called on religious leaders to maintain a moderate discourse that promotes coexistence and respects cultural diversity, noting that while peace is a priority, strength is necessary to protect it.
