Abbas Tajudeen warns drug trafficking fuels Nigeria security challenges

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has warned that drug trafficking is a significant driver of Nigeria’s security challenges, providing funds for criminal networks and violent activities. Speaking at the conclusion of a three-day sensitization program in Kaduna, Tajudeen emphasized the need for a dual approach: strict legal punishment for traffickers and medical care for those struggling with addiction.

The program, organized in partnership with the National Orientation Agency, focused on drug abuse and domestic violence. Tajudeen called for a coordinated community response, urging parents to monitor behavioral changes in children, schools to provide counseling, and pharmacists to refuse the unlawful sale of controlled substances.

He also encouraged traditional and religious leaders, as well as market and transport associations, to actively report suspicious drug movements and combat the social stigma surrounding addiction and domestic abuse.
