Abbie Lainton dies in Dominican Republic boat explosion

Abbie Lainton, a 16-year-old British girl from Swindon, died following a boat explosion during a family holiday in the Dominican Republic. The incident occurred on July 30 while the family was on an excursion near Saona Island.

Reports indicate the explosion left 24 people injured, with 11 individuals being hospitalized to receive treatment for burns. Lainton’s two siblings were also seriously injured in the accident and were treated at a hospital in La Romana. Witnesses described the vessel as appearing over-packed and smelling of gasoline before the explosion occurred.

Tributes have been shared by the Tanwood School for Performing Arts and the Swindon Lightning Cheerleading club, where Lainton was a member. A GoFundMe page has been established to support her family.
