Trey Taylor makes NHL debut with Dallas Stars
Trey Taylor, a 24-year-old defenceman from Richmond, made his National Hockey League debut on October 30, 2026, playing for the Dallas Stars in a 5-2 loss against the Montreal Canadiens. Taylor, a former Vernon Vipers player, was called up from the Texas Stars in the American Hockey League following a lower-body injury to Kyle Capobianco.
Taylor, who was signed as an undrafted free agent in March 2025, played 10:44 of ice time, recorded one hit, and maintained an even plus-minus rating. His career path to the NHL included playing for the Youngstown Phantoms in the USHL and three seasons at Clarkson University in the NCAA.
In related roster moves, the Dallas Stars also placed forward Cameron Hughes on waivers after activating him from the season-opening injured reserve list. Hughes is returning to the minor leagues following an upper-body injury sustained during the preseason.
