Abbotsford Police cleared of fault in fatal high-speed crash

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO) has released a report stating that the Abbotsford Police Department (APD) was not at fault for a fatal high-speed crash that occurred on March 17.

The incident involved an unmarked police vehicle attempting to stop a black Dodge Ram pickup truck traveling at high speeds on Maclure Road. After the officer activated emergency lights, the driver reportedly increased speed. Following a brief pursuit covering approximately one kilometer, the truck left the road due to wet conditions and struck a tree, resulting in the driver's death.

Investigation findings revealed the pickup truck had been stolen earlier that day. A witness officer noted that the pursuit actions did not appear to alter the driver's behavior, stating that the individual was already driving excessively before the officer's intervention.
