Abbotsford Police fine woman $1,000 for viral littering incidents

The Abbotsford Police Department has identified and fined a woman following viral videos that showed her dumping trash into local waterways. The incidents, which occurred in late July, were captured at Mill Lake and near Blue Jay Elementary.

After the footage began circulating on social media around August 17, police received reports from approximately 30 community members. On August 20, authorities announced the individual had been issued two fines totaling $1,000. Due to privacy legislation, the woman's identity has not been released.

Sgt. Paul Walker of the Abbotsford Police Department noted that while the community's assistance was vital for effective policing, the investigation also saw a surge of racist and discriminatory comments online. He emphasized that such hateful remarks are unacceptable and undermine community values.
