Abbotsford vice-principal suspended for messaging female students

Michael David Hendricks, a former high school vice-principal in Abbotsford, has been issued a three-week suspension of his teaching certificate. The ruling by the B.C. Commissioner for Teacher Regulation follows findings that Hendricks repeatedly violated professional boundaries with students.

According to the consent resolutions agreement, Hendricks messaged eight female students on Snapchat and Instagram during 2024 and 2025. These communications often occurred on personal accounts, late at night, or during weekends, and involved matters unrelated to school. The investigation noted that Hendricks continued this behavior even after receiving a verbal caution from the school principal regarding his social media use.

The suspension is scheduled to run from October 19 to November 8. Additionally, Hendricks is required to complete a course focused on professional boundaries. The ruling also noted that while his frequent attendance at girls' volleyball games did not constitute professional misconduct, it created a perception of undue favoritism.
