Abbott Amulet 360 achieves 96.3% closure rate in VERITAS study
Results from the VERITAS study, presented at the TCT 2026 congress in San Diego, show that the Amulet 360 system achieved a 96.3% complete left atrial appendage occlusion (LAAO) rate after one year. The study, published in JACC: Cardiovascular Interventions, evaluated the effectiveness of the device in preventing strokes for patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation.
The clinical trial involved 458 patients across 34 centers in the United States, Canada, and Europe. Using transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), researchers found that 96.3% of patients reached a complete closure without measurable leaks. When combining TEE and CT assessments, the closure rate was 91.1%.
The Amulet 360 system features a more flexible implant body and an outer disc acting as a second sealing layer. Safety data at the twelve-month mark reported a total mortality rate of 3.9% and a cardiovascular mortality rate of 1.9%. Ischemic strokes or systemic embolisms occurred in 1.8% of cases, while severe bleeding was reported in 6.6% of patients.
