Abbott launches first U.S. ready-to-feed whole milk infant formula
Abbott has announced the launch of Similac 360 Total Care Made With Whole Milk, which is the first and only ready-to-feed liquid infant formula made with whole milk available in the United States.
According to Misha Pardubicka-Jenkins, Abbott’s U.S. vice president and general manager for pediatric nutrition, the liquid-only approach was chosen to provide the benefits of whole milk alongside the convenience of a ready-to-use product. The company noted that the liquid formula undergoes an additional sterility step to become commercially sterile, helping to eliminate microorganisms such as Clostridium spores that can cause infant botulism.
The CDC has previously advised that extra precautions should be taken when preparing powdered formula for specific high-risk groups, including premature infants, those with weakened immune systems, and infants under two months of age.
