AbbVie projects $12.7 billion in neuroscience revenue by 2026

AbbVie is seeing significant growth in its neuroscience portfolio, with management projecting approximately $12.7 billion in revenue for 2026. This follows a strong performance in the first half of the year, with neuroscience revenue rising 20.3% year-over-year to $3.23 billion in the second quarter. Key contributors include Vraylar for schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, therapeutic Botox, and migraine treatments Ubrelvy and Qulipta.

The company’s success is also linked to its strategic approach to patent portfolios. By building extensive layers of patents around drug formulations, dosing, and manufacturing, AbbVie has been able to extend effective exclusivity. For example, while the core patent for Humira expired in 2016, U.S. biosimilars did not enter the market until 2023 due to a wall of more than 130 additional patents.
