Abby Choi murder trial: Prosecutors allege premeditated killing over apartment dispute

The murder trial of Hong Kong socialite and influencer Abby Choi has revealed details of a premeditated attack allegedly motivated by a financial dispute. Prosecutors contend that Choi was killed in February 2023 following disagreements over a luxury apartment that she had registered in the name of her former father-in-law, Kwong Kau, to minimize tax liabilities.

During court proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence suggesting the defendants—ex-husband Alex Kwong, his brother Anthony Kwong, and father Kwong Kau—prepared for the crime in advance. Evidence includes the rental of a village house in Tai Po's Lung Mei village and the purchase of items such as an electric saw, a meat mincer, a hammer, and large storage containers.

Prosecutors allege that Choi was struck with a hammer inside a vehicle before being taken to the rented property. While all three defendants have pleaded not guilty to murder, Alex and Anthony Kwong have pleaded guilty to the charge of preventing a lawful burial. The trial continues in the Hong Kong High Court.
