ABC and NBC compete for evening news ratings leadership

Evening news ratings for the weeks of August 3 and August 10 show fluctuating competition between major US broadcast networks. During the week of August 3, NBC Nightly News with Tom Llamas secured a narrow victory in the key Adults 25-54 demographic, edging out ABC World News Tonight with David Muir by 26,000 viewers. However, ABC maintained its lead in total viewership, averaging 8.339 million viewers compared to NBC’s 6.557 million.

By the week of August 10, ABC World News Tonight regained its first-place position in both total viewers and the Adults 25-54 demographic. ABC averaged 8.436 million total viewers and 1.162 million demo viewers, marking a week-to-week increase. In contrast, NBC Nightly News saw declines in both categories, averaging 6.611 million total viewers and 999,000 demo viewers.

CBS Evening News remained third in viewership. During the first week of August, it averaged 3.913 million total viewers, a 5% decrease from the previous week. While CBS saw some declines, its total viewership was up compared to the same period last year.
