ABC and SAFC launch early development grant for South Australian creatives
The ABC and the South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) have launched the ‘ABC First Look – Early Development Grant’ to support local writers, directors, and producers. Delivered through the existing ABC SAFC Content Pipeline Fund, the initiative provides funding to help progress documentary, drama, comedy, and animation projects toward future production with the ABC.
Successful applicants can receive up to $50,000 for scripted projects, including children’s content, and up to $25,000 for unscripted projects. In addition to financial support, recipients will receive direct feedback from ABC commissioners to refine their concepts. Funding may be used for various development activities, such as script editing, research, writers’ rooms, and legal costs.
The ABC SAFC Content Pipeline Fund, established three years ago, has reportedly injected more than $41 million into the South Australian economy and created over 1,500 jobs. Previous projects supported by the fund include ‘Beep and Mort’, ‘Treasure & Dirt’, and ‘Top End Bub’.
