ABC announces 'The Rookie' season nine and spinoff premiere dates

The Rookie The Rookie: North ABC New York Comic Con television spinoff

ABC has announced that the ninth season of 'The Rookie' and its new spinoff, 'The Rookie: North', will both premiere on Wednesday, January 6, 2027. The two shows will air in a back-to-back block, with the original series at 9 p.m. and the spinoff, starring Jay Ellis, following at 10 p.m.

During a panel at New York Comic Con, showrunner Alexi Hawley confirmed several casting updates and crossover details. For season nine of 'The Rookie', Troian Bellisario will join the cast as Stephanie Monroe, a single mother pursuing a law enforcement career, and Dulé Hill will appear as Lieutenant Hughes.

The spinoff, 'The Rookie: North', will maintain strong ties to the original series through regular crossovers. Nathan Fillion, Melissa O’Neil, and Eric Winter are confirmed to appear in the spinoff, with Hawley aiming for two to three crossover episodes per season to allow characters to move between Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest.
