ABC annual report reveals executive payouts and leadership turnover

The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) annual report has disclosed significant payouts following recent leadership changes. Former ABC News director Justin Stevens received a $353,000 payout after his abrupt departure in May, following a 19-year tenure at the broadcaster.

Managing director Hugh Marks received a total package of $1,199,856 for the 2026 financial year, while ABC chair Kim Williams was paid $226,000. The report also highlights high turnover within the senior management team under Marks, including the exit of chief operating officer Melanie Kleyn, who received a package of $869,771 in 2026.

These disclosures come as executives prepare for a Senate estimates committee hearing. Issues expected to be addressed include the cancellation of the long-running business program ‘The Business’ and the fallout from the dismissal of former Four Corners reporter Mahmood Fazal, whose investigative reporting faced scrutiny regarding sourcing integrity.
