ABC criticized for satirical video depicting violence against Gina Rinehart

Hancock Prospecting, the company owned by mining billionaire Gina Rinehart, has called for a public apology from the Australian Broadcasting Corporation. The firm alleges that a segment aired on ABC’s program “Race Around the World” glorified sexualised and political violence against Rinehart, describing it as “appalling material” that graphically depicted her being sodomised and tortured.

The four‑minute video, titled “A Very Relaxing Video”, featured a character described as a “Scottish forest warrior ninja” delivering graphic threats, including the line “shove a stick right up Gina Rinehart’s butthole”. ABC says the clip was intended as satire, was created by an amateur filmmaker, and passed all production, editorial and broadcast processes in line with the broadcaster’s editorial standards.
