ABC News considers shakeup at Good Morning America after ratings loss

ABC News is considering a major restructuring of ‘Good Morning America’ following the program’s loss of its top ratings position to NBC’s ‘The Today Show’. During the 2025-2026 season, ‘Today’ secured 2.9 million total viewers and 612,000 in the 25-54 demographic, surpassing ‘GMA’s 2.8 million total viewers and 477,000 in the same demographic. This marks the first time ‘Today’ has held the top spot since the 2011-2012 season.

Internal sources suggest the ratings decline is linked to the frequent absence of co-hosts Michael Strahan, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos from the studio simultaneously. Additionally, reports indicate interpersonal tensions among the anchors. With parent company Disney seeking to reduce costs, the high salaries of the current hosts—estimated at over $15 million each per year—are reportedly under scrutiny.
