ABC News retracts report on Trump family defense investments
ABC News has retracted an investigative report concerning Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump after the story was challenged for factual inaccuracies. The original article claimed that companies in which the president’s sons had invested had benefited from more than $6 billion in government contracts since Donald Trump returned to office in 2025.
According to communications obtained by Semafor, the report inaccurately suggested that the investment firm 1789 Capital, of which Donald Trump Jr. is a partner, held a major stake in defense contractor Anduril. Anduril spokespeople clarified that while 1789 Capital participated in a recent funding round, its $50 million investment represents approximately 0.13% of the company, rather than the “major stake” implied by the report.
Following the publication, the investigative reporter, Nathan Lee, reportedly told Anduril that the network was updating the story for accuracy, but the article was ultimately removed from the ABC News website within 24 hours. An unnamed source indicated the story was published “prematurely.”
