ABC to undergo major strategic restructuring
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) is preparing to unveil a major strategic plan to fundamentally restructure the national broadcaster. Spearheaded by ABC managing director Hugh Marks, the strategy reveal is provisionally scheduled for October 20.
The move comes as the broadcaster faces budget constraints, with real-term funding down 12.1 per cent from the 2013/14 period. Marks has indicated that the current budget is spread too thin, necessitating a refocus on core services characterized by being ‘distinctive, live and local’.
The restructuring will coincide with the arrival of new ABC director of news Simon Robinson, who is set to begin in mid-September following his tenure at Reuters.
