ABCDT to host forum in Brasília on peritoneal dialysis expansion

The Brazilian Association of Dialysis and Transplant Centers (ABCDT), in partnership with Vantive, will host the Peritoneal Dialysis Forum in Brasília on October 27. The event, themed ‘The Era of Home Dialysis – Scale, Technology and Sustainability in the SUS’, aims to discuss challenges and opportunities for expanding access to peritoneal dialysis within Brazil’s Unified Health System (SUS).

Participants will include representatives from the Ministry of Health, nephrologists, managers, and specialists. The discussion will focus on public policies, financial sustainability, and the incorporation of new technologies. Peritoneal dialysis allows patients with chronic kidney disease to receive treatment at home, offering greater flexibility and reducing the need for frequent travel to dialysis centers.

Data from the ABCDT Dialysis Observatory as of December 2025 indicates that peritoneal dialysis is currently underutilized in Brazil, accounting for only 5.6% of renal replacement therapies, while conventional hemodialysis represents 87.3%.
